You are probably knitting up your brow and thinking ” A Simple Fruit Salad Recipe……..why on earth would anyone write about a fruit salad recipe?”
Well simply this……….because I want you to eat more fruit.
Why? Because they are a source of many essential nutrients including potassium, vitamin C and folate which you need. They are also a high source of fiber.
By now, I am sure you are aware of the many studies which show that a lot of fruits in the diet can help to protect us from many chronic illnesses such as heart disease, hypertension and cancers.
Are you eating the recommended five servings of fruits per day? (As a matter of fact, the recommendation is now greater that five servings per day.)
If you are like the majority of persons in the world, the answer is probably “no”.
If that is the case, then you are robbing yourself of the powerful antioxidants and phytochemicals needed in our quest for good health.
How to increase your fruit intake
Look around the kitchen. You probably have some fruits on the counter. There might also be some in the refrigerator. But how much fruit did you really have today?
Not enough. Right?
Well I want to share with you one of the ways to increase you intake of fruits. It is simple. Grab all those fruits you have around the house and make a fruit salad. In that way you will be taking in a lot of the varying nutrients provided by these different fruits.
A fruit salad is easy to do but you may not have given much thought to it so go ahead and try this Simple Fruit Salad Recipe and give your taste buds a burst of flavour and nutrition
Combine the following in a large bowl
Peaches – remove the seed and cut into bite sized pieces
Bananas – peeled and sliced.
Kiwi – peeled and chopped
Apples – Remove seeds from apples before slicing.
Grapes, strawberry, blueberries
Cherries – sliced in half
Remember to remove seeds from cherries before adding to bowl
Combine all ingredients in the bowl
Add nuts and seeds for added nutrition.
Choose whatever nuts or seeds you desire……..almonds, walnut, pecan, sunflower seed, sesame seed……..your choice.
There you go. Lots of antioxidants, pytochemicals and fiber. That was simple, wasn’t it?
Your body will thank you for this.
- 2 ripe bananas – peeled and sliced
- 2 peaches – pitted and chopped into bite sized pieces
- 2 kiwi – peeled and chopped
- 2 apples – cored and chopped
- 10 seedless grapes
- 4 strawberries – sliced
- 12 blueberries
- 10 cherries – pitted and sliced
- Combine all the ingredients in a large salad bowl and mix together.
- Chill and serve.
This is a really simple fruit salad.
